Mixed-use development moves forward for Layton Avenue in Cudahy

The Cudahy Community Development Authority has approved a four-story, mixed-use development in excess of $10 million on Layton Avenue.

Bear Development is proposing a 57-unit apartment complex that will include a mix of one- to three bedroom “workforce” rate apartments and 4,000 square feet of street-level retail at 3503 Layton Ave.

The residential units will be between 713-squaree feet and 1,426-square-feet.

Cudahy Mayor John Hohenfeldt said Bear does not haves specific tenants secured but is planning a potential coffee shop, pub, accountant’s office and light health care, which could include a chiropractor.

Kenosha-based Bear was awarded tax credits in April from the Wisconsin Housing & Economic Development Authority for the project. The development will be built on vacant land owned by the Community Development Authority.

The Cudahy City Council Tuesday will consider the proposal Tuesday.
