Mixed-use development planned in Brewers Hill

Olson Management Group plans to demolish a 111-year-old, 7,284-square-foot Milwaukee building at 2001 N. Holton St. and build a five-story mixed-use building in its place.

Olson Management Group plans to demolish a 111-year-old, 7,284-square-foot Milwaukee building at 2001 N. Holton St. and construct a five-story mixed-use building in its place.

The new building would have about 15,000 square feet of first-floor retail space, 45 apartments on the second, third and fourth floors and eight condominiums on the top floor, according to Olson Management vice president Sonny Bando.

The cost of the units has yet to be determined, he said. The property slightly less than one acre in size. The current building on the site was formerly used by a funeral home and is now being used by a church, Bando said.

The site is located at the northwest corner of North Holton Street and East Brown Street in the Brewers Hill neighborhood, which has seen a significant amount of gentrification in recent years.

“In my opinion, it’s the gateway to Brewers Hill,” Bando said. “You’ve got phenomenal views (from the property) of Milwaukee, the skyline, the lake.”

The project still must be approved by city officials. If it is, Bando said Olson Management hopes to begin construction in the spring or summer.

Olson Management also is working on another project in Brewers Hill. The company is converting a 98-year-old, 22,500-square-foot brick warehouse building at 141 W. Vine St. into 19 apartments.

The building was once occupied by New Berlin-based Hastings Air-Energy Control, which moved out of the building about four years ago. The apartments in that building will be rented for $900 to $1,700 per month, Bando said. The project should be complete by the end of next summer, he said.
