Milwaukee’s streetcar now has an app that allows riders to check the real-time location of vehicles on the route.
The Hop can be tracked using the free TransLoc Rider app, which gives estimated arrival times at each station, alerts when a vehicle approaches a specified station, and service delay alerts.
Durham, North Carolina-based TransLoc’s Rider app is currently in use by a number of other transit systems nationwide, including Chicago Transit Authority, Memphis Area Transit Authority, New York University and Harvard University.
To use the app in Milwaukee, riders must choose “M-Line: Burns Commons to Intermodal Station” as the route. Users can also see vehicle information online at thehopmke.transloc.com or via SMS by texting HOPMKE [station code] to 41411.
“We’re still in the early stages of rolling out this real-time solution and will continue working to add additional amenities and monitor the system’s accuracy, but given the inclement weather we’re experiencing we wanted to get this asset into the hands of our riders as quickly as possible,” said Jeff Polenske, commissioner of Public Works for the City of Milwaukee. “With slower conditions on the road today, riders can start tracking the streetcars now to get a better sense of arrival times.”
