Three Milwaukee residents are charged with illegally receiving more than $1.2 million in SNAP and WIC benefits while working at Quick N EZ Super Market on the city’s north side.
According to the indictment filed last week in U.S. District Court for Eastern Wisconsin, Kanwar Gill, Raviinder Gill and George Nance would exchange benefits from the federal Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program and Women, Infants and Children programs for cash at a discounted rate. Quick N EZ, located at 3076 N. 27th St., would then be reimbursed for the full value of the benefits, allowing the business to profit on the difference between the benefit and the discounted cash payment.
The indictment says the store was owned and operated by the Gills and Nance.
Kanwar Gill, who is listed in state records as the registered agent of Quick N EZ, is charged with three counts of wire fraud, each carrying a potential penalty of 20 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
Raviinder Gill is charged with one count of wire fraud and one count of SNAP fraud, the latter carries a penalty of 5 years in prison and $20,000 fine.
Nance is charged with three counts of wire fraud as well.
The indictment says the trio improperly received $1,245,529.72 in payments between 2013 and 2015.
