Milwaukee ranks highest in the nation in manufacturing job growth, according to a new report by the New York City-based statistics firm Wanted Analytics.

The Milwaukee-Waukesha-West Allis area saw a 33.5 percent increase in manufacturing jobs over the same time period last year, the report said.

Other cities that experienced high manufacturing growth are San Francisco with a 26.5 percent increase and Dallas with a 16.7 percent increase. Chicago and New York also showed double-digit growth.

Job growth was highest in the areas of electronic computer manufacturing (a 24.4 percent increase), soft drink manufacturing (16.1 percent) and surgical and medical instrument manufacturing (12.9 percent).

Industrial engineers and first-line supervisors of production and operating workers have the highest number of new jobs, but percentage-wise medical scientist jobs grew the most with a 16.1 percent increase over last year.

Wanted Analytics determined its rankings by comparing hiring data, including job ads, from April to June 2015 for 350 U.S. metropolitan areas.
