The city of Milwaukee has launched the second wave of its Restart grant program, which offers $10 million in relief funds to Milwaukee-based businesses impacted by the pandemic.
“Many Milwaukee small businesses continue to face hardship as a direct result of the current pandemic,” Milwaukee mayor Tom Barrett said in a statement. “COVID-19’s economic impact affects hardworking residents and harms neighborhood business districts.”
Eligible city of Milwaukee businesses must have fewer than 20 full-time equivalent employees and an annual revenue greater than $0 and less than $2 million. Businesses that previously received Restart grants can apply again, but no business can receive a combined total of more than $25,000 in Restart program grants.
Several new businesses categories will be eligible to apply, including home-based businesses, food trucks, licensed daycares and state licensed group homes.
Business owners can use Restart grants for personal protective equipment, restocking perishable inventory, rent and utility payments, winterizing outdoor spaces and for physical improvements to reduce the spread of COVID-19.
The application portal opened Oct. 1 and will close Oct. 8 at 5 p.m. So far, 250 businesses have applied, of which 180 applications were complete, said Jeff Flemming, City of Milwaukee spokesman.
