Milwaukee-based biotech startup Geno.Me has hired its first chief technical officer with the addition of Shawn Belling. Belling, who announced his appointment to the position Wednesday on LinkedIn, has most recently served as the chief information officer at Madison Area Technical College. He is also a senior advisor of Madison-based Farwell, a consulting and advisory firm. “I’m excited to share a big change in my career,” said Belling. Geno.Me links genomic and electronic health record data in an open marketplace, which allows medical researchers to more easily access data and patients to have more transparency and control of the use of their personal health and medical data, according to Britt Gottschalk, the company’s founder and CEO. Geno.Me is at the tail end of a seed two funding round with a cap of $3.25 million. Gottschalk told BizTimes Media earlier this week that a portion of that funding would be used to add key roles within the company, including a CTO. Belling will assume his new role at the start of 2023, according to Gottschalk.
