An affiliate of Midwest Stairs & Iron purchased a 50,000-square-foot facility from Mortara Instrument Inc. for $1.3 million, according to state records.
Midwest Stairs & Iron is planning to move its non-ferrous metal fabrication from the company’s building at 8111 W. Bradley Road to 8220 W. Sleske Court. The move will double the size of the current facility.
Midwest Stairs & Iron is headquartered at 4160 S. 13th St.
In February, Midwest Stairs & Iron requested a $540,000 loan from the Milwaukee Economic Development Corp. for the project.
Midwest Stairs & Iron was incorporated in 2006. The company employs 57 people. The move will allow the company to grow by 12 to 15 employees over the next two years, company founder Howard Wurgler said in February.
Midwest Stairs & Iron does projects across the United States. Local construction projects include the balconies on the Rhythm apartments, 1640 N. Water St., and the Freshwater Plaza apartments, 1320 S. First St., and the staircase at the new Bader Rutter headquarters, 1433 N. Water St.
Mortara Instrument, which designs, develops and manufactures diagnostic cardiology and patient monitoring solutions, is headquartered at 7865 N. 86th St. The building at 8220 W. Sleske Court was used by Mortara for additional manufacturing and shipping and receiving.
In February 2017, Mortara was acquired by Chicago-based Hill-Rom Holdings Inc. for $330 million.
