The Milwaukee Athletic Club will officially launch its mentor program in late September.
The program began in 2009 on an ad hoc basis when several younger members asked for introductions to specific senior members who had experience in their fields.
Over the years, more members sought out mentorships with experienced executives. Recently, the club decided to formalize the process.
“The new program allows young executives to tap into the knowledge of some of our senior members,” says Brad Schendel, member services director at the MAC. “We have a lot of younger members signed up. Now we’re in the process of matching them with mentors.”
The mentor serves as an adviser and trusted confidante on an ongoing basis. The mentor may also serve as an introduction to a vast network of other professionals.
Mentees meet with their mentors over breakfast or lunch once each month during a six-month period. Each mentor is expected to learn as much as possible about the mentee’s needs, while each mentee is expected to arrive with a battery of questions or problems to address.
