Dohmen acquires Germantown firm; Canadian firm acquires DCI Cheese Company

Dohmen acquires Germantown firm

The Dohmen Investment Group, the acquisitions arm of Milwaukee-based Dohmen (formerly known as the F. Dohmen Co.) has acquired PlanIT Inc., a Germantown-based health care analytics company.

Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed. Terry Adams, co-founder of PlanIT, has become a division president of Dohmen. All of the employees of PlanIT have been retained.

The purchase is one of several planned acquisitions by Dohmen, with the intent to create a series of companies dedicated to creating efficiencies within health care, said Cynthia LaConte, Dohmen’s chief executive officer and a fifth generation of the Dohmen family to lead the company.

“PlanIT’s track record of reducing health care expense for group health plans through their proprietary analytics tools is completely aligned with our values and our vision of creating a more efficient, affordable and accessible health care supply system,” LaConte said. “Its team, its culture and its mission make PlanIT an ideal addition to our growing family of companies.”

Dohmen’s previous portfolio companies are RESTAT, a prescription management firm based in Milwaukee, and Menomonee Falls-based DDN, which provides outsourced support to drug developers, including startup firms. The company sold its wholesale pharmaceutical division in 2006, which has given it a large cash reserve to make future acquisitions.

The addition of PlanIT will take Dohmen closer to its goal of being a one-stop solutions provider to corporations, health care providers and related companies.

“Payers are struggling to manage higher (medical) costs,” LaConte said. “This fits into our vision of a more manageable, affordable health care system – we can understand the cost drivers and manage those drivers.

“We’ve used their offering (PlanIT’s) as a company. It’s been a fantastic tool for us and will be well received by our clients and future clients.”

Canadian firm acquires DCI Cheese Company

Montreal-based Saputo Inc. has signed an agreement to acquire Fairmount Cheese Holdings Inc., the parent company of DCI Cheese Company Inc., which operates a plant in Richfield.

DCI is one of the largest specialty cheese marketers in the United States. DCI sells and distributes specialty cheese from the cut and wrap facility located in Green Bay, Wisconsin, and from a distribution center in Carlstadt, N.J.

DCI has a total of 475 employees. For the year ended Dec. 31, DCI had sales of about $460 million.

The company was acquired for $270.5 million on a debt-free basis.

The transaction is subject to usual closing conditions.
