Grand Rapids, Mich.-based Meijer Inc. continues to roll out its plans for entering the metro Milwaukee area market place.
The company has submitted plans to build a 191,352-square-foot store, and a separate gas station/convenience store, southeast of Highway 164 and County Highway K. The site is currently located in the Town of Lisbon, but would be annexed into the Village of Sussex. The 21-acre property is currently used as farmland.
The Sussex Plan Commission will do a conceptual review of the project at its Sept. 20 meeting. Meijer hopes to begin construction of the store next year and hopes to have it open by the spring of 2014.
Meijer, which operates large grocery/general merchandise stores, is also advancing plans to build stores in Franklin, Grafton and Wauwatosa. Retail and real estate experts are predicting that Meijer is working on plans for several additional stores in the region.
