Marquette University’s College of Health Sciences has received a $1 million donation from two alumni to establish a fund that will support research of neuropsychiatric illnesses.
Named for its benefactors, the fund will be called the Dennis and Barbara Klein Health Sciences Innovation Fund.
“It’s important to us to support the ongoing research in this college at Marquette,” said Dennis Klein. “These researchers are at the leading edge of their field and we want to help provide them with critical resources needed to advance this important this work.”
William Cullinan, dean of the College of Health Sciences and director of Marquette’s Integrative Neuroscience Research Center, said the fund will accelerate the pace of research his teams are conducting to find underlying causes of mental illnesses and develop treatments.
“The work being done in the College of Health Sciences is a key driver toward our goal of doubling research at Marquette in the next five years,” said Marquette President Michael Lovell. “On behalf of the Marquette community, I thank Dennis and Barbara for both this gift and their long-standing support of the university’s programs and people.”
