Lumin Medical to double in size with acquisition

Will move Online Reputation Management business from South Carolina to Franklin

Franklin-based Lumin Medical LLC has acquired the Online Reputation Management division of Charleston, S.C.-based Implementing Technologies LLC and plans to move the business to Franklin.

The acquisition includes Implementing Technologies’ proprietary ORM software, as well as two employees Lumin has hired on that will continue to work from Charleston. Lumin will also hire another five employees over the next 12 months as a result of the acquisition, said James Hermann, president of Lumin. The ORM software manages a health care provider’s online presence, scraping information from review sites on thousands of physicians in a health system.

“What they have is incredibly powerful,” Hermann said. “The intellectual property that they have is incredible. We’ll probably hire a few more and we’re going to grow the business here in Wisconsin.”

Lumin was founded in 2014 and develops cloud-based health care software solutions, including patient tracking, patient sign-in kiosks and appointment reminders. It has a second location in Geneva, Ill., and a national customer base. It now has seven employees.

With the acquisition of ORM, which delivers automated patient satisfaction surveys and tracks online physician reviews, Lumin can incorporate the technology into its web-based PatientTrak platform, which tracks the patient experience before, during and after a visit to a health care provider. The platform already includes a patient visit flow tracking system and a patient engagement text messaging solution that includes appointment reminders, status updates during surgery and patient communication.

Along with the ORM software, Lumin will add some prominent health care providers to its client list, including Boston Children’s Hospital and Norton Healthcare, Hermann said.

“We’re very happy to bring those customers in and then introduce them to our other solutions,” he said. “It’s very synergistic.”

Lumin’s growth has been driven by health care providers’ need to track their online presence and reputation.

“Patient satisfaction is the No. 1 priority in health care because the reimbursements are going to be based on it more and more in the future,” Hermann said. “Health care needs to know how satisfied their patients are and be able to manage that.”
