Lowlands Group to enter Madison market

Milwaukee-based Lowlands Group plans to expand into the Madison market with a Café Hollander restaurant at Hilldale Shopping Center in Madison.

The restaurant group plans to open the location in the first quarter of 2015. It currently has seven restaurants, including two Café Hollander restaurants, in the Milwaukee area.

Like the Milwaukee locations, the Hilldale Café Hollander will feature a European “grand café” theme. It will serve breakfast, lunch, dinner, late night dining and weekend brunches. The Hilldale location will offer indoor and outdoor dining, with a sidewalk patio, rooftop deck and interior courtyard with retractable glass roof.

The restaurant will have 30 beers on tap and more than 100 bottled beers. Lowlands Group specializes in Belgian biers, and will have three of its own Lowlands Brewing Co. biers available at the restaurant.

“Our focus is on serving our customers real food – scratch cooking with an emphasis on quality local or regional products whenever possible,” said chief operating officer Paul Pendleton of Chef Wil Borgstrom’s menu.

“We are thrilled to be bringing our values and our cafe to Madison,” he said. “We have been wanting to open one of our concepts here and think Hilldale is an ideal location.”

Chestnut Hill, Mass.-based WS Development, which owns Hilldale, is currently redeveloping the property to include an outside shopping area attached to the existing indoor mall. Café Hollander will be on the west side of the mall, near Macy’s and Morgan’s shoes. Hilldale has 55 stores, anchored by Macy’s, Target, Metcalfe’s Market and Sundance Cinemas.
