Kwik Trip plans to build a roughly 9,000-square-foot gas station and convenience store at a new business park being developed in Sussex.
According to documents filed with the village, the development includes a convenience store with attached car wash and two fueling areas, one for gasoline and a separate one for diesel. The project is proposed along County Highway K, within the village’s new Highlands Business Park.
Wauwatosa-based Wangard Partners Inc. is developing the 149-acre business park, located northwest of Highway 164 and Highway K. Wangard in late July broke ground on the development, which will be able to accommodate industrial, food service, health care service, general service and retail businesses.
The Kwik Trip store would be constructed at the northeast corner of Highway K and Highlands Drive, a new street being built as part of the Highlands Business Park development.
According to a letter signed by Jeff Osgood, development manager for La Crosse-based Kwik Trip Inc., the project is expected to cost $2 million. It will be operated similar to other existing area Kwik Trip locations, including products such as groceries, bakery and dairy items, tobacco, propane and other convenience store merchandise.
It will employ between 28-35 full- and part-time positions, with as many as eight on staff at any given time. Kwik Trip is requesting that the store be open 24 hours a day.
Plans are being presented Tuesday to the village’s Plan Commission. Jeremy Smith, Sussex village administrator, said commissioners will only review the plans tomorrow, with consideration for approvals to come at a later meeting.
The Village Board will need to approve a related certified survey map on the project. Otherwise, all other approvals will be considered at the Plan Commission level, he said.
“My guess is by end of March all the approvals would be in place, and they could start construction shortly thereafter,” Smith said.
