Kwik Trip planning gas station, retail store in Somers

kwiktrip-shutterstock_3819949601LaCrosse-based Kwik Trip purchased 40 acres of land for $3.9 million north of Highway S, just east of Interstate 94 in the Town of Somers and is planning to open a gas station and retail store on about 10 acres of the property.

The remaining land will likely be sold and developed for a spec warehouse building, said Hans Zietlow, director of real estate at Kwik Trip.  The entire parcel will likely be developed in 2018, Zietlow said.

“We had to buy the whole 40 acres to get the property, this happens quite often,” Zietlow said. “We wanted to build a travel center on the interstate and looked at every intersection from Milwaukee to the state line. This was the only one that was large enough, that had the right zoning and the access we needed.”

In addition to its the gas stations and retail stores, Kwik Trip has a large in-house real estate development company. Kwik Trip opens 40 to 50 stores a year and also develops several other properties per year, Zietlow said.
