The company, which has 1,166 store locations across 49 states, expects to hire an average of 50 associates per store. Kohl’s also plans to hire about 9,500 season workers at distribution and e-commerce fulfillment centers throughout the country along with another 660 seasonal credit operations personnel.
“We want to ensure we provide the excellent service and easy experience Kohl’s customers expect, whether shopping in stores or online,” Richard Schepp, Kohl’s chief administrative officer, said in a statement. “By building a winning team of associates, we know we will help our customers continue to enjoy Kohl’s incredible savings and amazing product throughout the holiday season and beyond.”
Kohl’s customers can purchase merchandise online and pick it up in stores. Seasonal workers will help complete the orders as well as online orders need to be shipped from stores right to customers. Seasonal staff will also handle freight processing and customer service in stores.
Kohl’s began hiring its wave of seasonal staff in August and will likely have most positions filled by mid-November.
It is not yet clear how many seasonal associates will be assigned to stores in southeastern Wisconsin. Each holiday season, Kohl’s assesses business needs of each location and needs of customers, according to company spokesperson Melanie Hochschild.
In 2013, Kohl’s was among several national retailers that could not keep pace with holiday orders. The company reimbursed customers for items not delivered to their doors in time for the holiday.
