The closure is part of a larger plan Kohl’s announced Feb. 25 to shutter 18 underperforming stores as it works to adapt to changing consumer shopping trends. The retailer’s profit fell 20 percent in the fourth quarter.

None of the other stores are in Wisconsin. The closures represent less than one percent of Kohl’s total sales, and are expected to result in about $55 million in savings annually. The retailer has 1,164 stores nationwide.

Each Kohl’s store employs about 80 to 100 people. The company offered eligible affected employees jobs at a nearby Kohl’s stores. Employees could also choose to accept a severance package.

At the same time, Kohl’s is working to increase sales through new store concepts. It is opening seven new pilot stores in a smaller format; opening two more Off/Aisle pilot stores in Wisconsin; and launching 12 new Fila outlet stores.

The company said it reviewed all of its markets before making the decision, including each store’s rent and operating expenses, as well as its customers’ adaptation to Kohl’s omnichannel marketing efforts, which target customers in the store and online.
