Kohler acquires Brazilian generator manufacturer

Kohler Power Systems has acquired Sao Paolo, Brazil-based generator manufacturer Maquigeral.
The acquisition is Kohler’s first expansion into South America.

Kohler, Wis.-based Kohler Power Systems makes generators, automatic transfer switches and switchgear. It’s part of the Kohler Global Power Group, a division of kitchen and bath powerhouse Kohler Co.
Maquigeral offers power supply services to the Kohler product lines.
The Brazilian company will be managed by SDMO, a French Kohler subsidiary that also makes generators and switches. SDMO has a presence in Europe, the Middle East and Africa.
SDMO plans to improve the technology at Maquigeral and diversify its products.
“We were persuaded to invest in Brazil because of its strong economic potential, and a growing need for primary and backup power systems,” said Herbert Kohler Jr., chairman and chief executive officer of Kohler Co. “Maquigeral represents an excellent building block in South America.”
