The 11,500-square-foot building at, 2535 S. Kinnickinnic Ave., is the former home of the Down and Over Pub, sister bar to The Up and Under Pub on Brady Street and the former Bay View Brew Haus.

Charles Bailey, the project’s registered agent, said the guest rooms will be dog friendly and equipped with amenities including an open common lounge area that features a pro-series kitchen, mini library and laundry.

“My wife and I chose Bay View for a number of reasons, and central among these are its beauty, proximity to the lakefront, walkability and security,” Bailey said in a press release. “But, perhaps most important is its sense of community which a person, whether here for a day or a lifetime, can’t possibly avoid. It’s palpable and it’s charming.”

The restaurant will be operated by sisters Marija and Vesna Madunic, who founded Wauwatosa’s Firefly restaurant and Gracious Events catering.

Alderman Tony Zielinski said he’s happy the developer was able to take an older building and transform it into a destination hotel and restaurant.

“They’ve done amazing work and the property will be something special for years to come,” Zielinski said.
