Justin M. Mertz

Justin Mertz has joined Michael Best & Friedrich LLP, Milwaukee, as an attorney in the firm’s Transactional Practice Group.

Mertz’s practice focuses on many aspects of business law with an emphasis on the areas of business bankruptcy, corporate law, commercial loan negotiation and real estate. He has extensive litigation experience in both federal and state court cases. Mertz’s practice includes complex contract negotiation and drafting, corporate, commercial and residential real estate transactions, and financial decision-making and cash flow analyses for his business clients. He also assists with general business litigation matters including non-compete agreements, real estate development, condominium disputes and tax liabilities for distressed companies.

Prior to joining Michael Best, Mertz practiced in the Milwaukee-area offices of two business law firms. His specialty of Chapter 11 work also included a focus on real estate matters including 363 sales under the bankruptcy code, business formation, loan work-outs and commercial leasing. Mertz was also involved with real estate litigation, foreclosure defense and general business litigation.

Mertz received his J.D. and MBA from Marquette University Law School, where he was a Student Editor of the Federation of Defense and Corporate Counsel Quarterly. He also received his B.S., cum laude, in Finance and his B.A., cum laude with distinction, in German from Miami University. In addition to his client work, Mertz is a volunteer attorney with Legal Action Wisconsin.
