Juan Williams of Fox News named Press Club’s Sacred Cat honoree

    The Milwaukee Press Club has announced that veteran political analyst and journalist Juan Williams will be the 2012 Sacred Cat award honoree.

    The award has been giving annually since 1973 and recognizes excellence in journalism at the national level.
    “We are delighted to have a veteran political reporter of Juan Williams’ caliber as our Sacred Cat honoree in such a highly charged political year for both Wisconsin and the nation,” said Mary Van de Kamp Nohl, Milwaukee Press Club president.
    Williams is a political analyst for Fox News. He previously worked as a host and senior news analyst for National Public Radio and was also formerly an award winning investigative reporter and columnist for the Washington Post. Williams is also the author of numerous books, including Eyes on the Prize: America’s Civil Rights Years, 1954-1965, and a biography of Supreme Court Justice Thurgood Marshall. Earlier this year, Williams moderated a Republican presidential primary debate in South Carolina.
    Williams will accept the award at the Club’s annual Gridiron Dinner on Friday May 18, at the Marcus Center for the Performing Arts in Milwaukee.
    Past Sacred Cats include Walter Cronkite, Malcolm Forbes, Judy Woodruff, Michael Bloomberg and Gene Siskel and Roger Ebert.
    The Headliner Awards are presented annually to those who are making a positive difference in Wisconsin.
    The Press Club will also honor 2012 Headliners John Cary, executive director of the MACC Fund, Midwest Athletes Against Childhood Cancer, Inc., and Sue Black, Milwaukee County director of Parks, Recreation and Culture, as well as the winners of the 2011 Excellence in Wisconsin Journalism competition. WISN Channel 12 news anchor Kathy Mykleby and WUWM radio reporter/producer LaToya Dennis will emcee.
