API Healthcare was a small, well-run family business when J.P. Fingado was first introduced to the company in November, 2008. The company was being considered for an acquisition, and Fingado was asked to take a tour of the facility.
He was struck by the potential of the company and its products, eventually leaving his job in Kansas City to become president and CEO.
“My first thought was that this was an incredible opportunity,” Fingado said. “I could see this was a well run family business, they had phenomenal products and a phenomenal service mentality. Along with the right vision, I knew those were the difficult things to achieve in any good business.”
Fingado credits the company’s success to the product, the vision but also to the people who work there. According to Christine Hoxworth, a colleague and Fingado’s nominator for the award, he values his employees and maintains an ethical and supportive work-life environment.
The company regularly holds special events for associates and their families including: Halloween Trick or Treating, Holiday Breakfasts, Take your Kids to Work Day and Annual Awards Dinners, Hoxworth said.
Since 2008, Fingado has grown the company from 600 clients to more than 1600 and has more than doubled the company’s revenue. In addition, API has opened offices in San Diego, Calif. and Dallas, Tex.
“I’ve been very pleased with the progress we’ve been able to make in the last four years,” Fingado said.
API Healthcare previously sold individual systems to clients, he said.
“My vision was to bring our solutions together to re-define the market standard for workforce management,” he said.
API’s Healthcare Workforce Information Exchange helps facilitate the sharing of data between healthcare facilities, but goes a step beyond electronic medical records and includes workforce data and employee records.
“This allows for effective talent development and utilization across multiple facilities; hospitals, clinics, and even long-term care and home health facilities,” Fingado said. “It puts the right medical professional in front of the patient that needs their exact skill set.”
