Work continues on the Iron Horse Hotel, a new 102-room boutique hotel under construction at 500 W. Florida St., in Milwaukee’s Walkers Point neighborhood. The building is located just south of the recently-opened Harley-Davidson Museum.
Although the hotel will not be completed in time for Harley-Davidson’s 105th anniversary celebration from Aug. 27 to Aug. 31, it will be “partially open,” according to Tim Dixon, president of Dixon Development LLC, the developer of the hotel. The Iron Horse will be able to serve food and drinks during the event and will have a limited number of guests staying there, he said.
Construction will continue during the celebration, Dixon said, but visitors will be able to tour the facility.
“We want them to see (the hotel) while they’re here and to come back two months later when we’re fully open,” Dixon said.
Construction crews are now putting finishing touches on the hotel’s rooms, dining and bar facilities and exterior. When completed, the Iron Horse Hotel will include a restaurant named Smyth, a café called The Yard and a breakfast room named The Library.
It will also feature on-site covered motorcycle parking and valet auto parking.
The Iron Horse is being developed inside a six-story, nearly 96,000-square-foot former warehouse building, which features Cream City brick, exposed beams and other historic features. Many of the hotel’s design elements evoke both Milwaukee’s manufacturing history and its connection to Harley-Davidson motorcycles.
