Innovation: Taking sales orders to the cloud

Long before most people were acquainted with the Internet, Randy Olejnik saw a future in the cloud. Now, the chief executive officer and president of Brookfield-based Cilio Technologies LLC has taken his vision and turned it into a successful business.

Cilio Technologies uses cloud computing applications to manage installed sales and special purchase orders for retail home improvement stores and manufacturers. The system allows users to track the sale from the initial purchase order all the way to the delivery.

The web portal eliminates the confusion and complexities of the old system, Olejnik said.

“The (old) process was highly manual,” Olejnik said of standard pen and paper orders. “When you place an order at the store, they would typically fax the order to the installer, then the installer would take over from there, and the store would lose sight of that. We provide visibility. We’ve reduced time.”

With the cloud, electronic documents and email, Olejnik said orders are not only received faster, but vendors are getting paid faster, too. In 2007, that was enough value to get home improvement chain Lowe’s onboard.

Last year, Cilio Technologies had more than $1 billion in sales orders. The company expects to continue growth in the double-digits, especially as the cloud catches on. Cilio has managed the success with eight employees.

“We are a small company, but we do big things,” said Olejnik.
