The company announced the moves in a statement released Monday and said it plans to turn its facility at 20925 Crossroads Circle in the Town of Brookfield into a manufacturing and research and development hub for its global transplantation diagnostic business.

“Brookfield continues to be an important base of operations for our company,” said Mike McNello, senior director of operations and site leader for Immucor in Brookfield. “The region has a deep base of talent that uniquely supports businesses like ours. After considering a number of location options, we decided that Wisconsin was the optimal place to make this investment.”

Most of the new employees the company plans to hire in Brookfield will be research and development scientists and chemists.

“These capital and staff investments will enable Immucor to significantly increase sales of products manufactured at its Brookfield location, more than half of which will be sold to overseas customers,” Immucor representatives said in the statement.

The Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation agreed to make the company eligible for up to $480,000 in Business Development Tax Credits if it keeps its pledge to add 64 full-time jobs and invest $1.58 million in capital improvements over the next three years.

“We are pleased and grateful that Immucor has chosen to expand in southeastern Wisconsin,” said Jim Paetsch, vice president of the Milwaukee 7 regional economic development group. “We understand that this expansion could have been placed in any number of locales where Immucor has operations. The decision by Immucor to expand here is another affirmation that our assets, talent and work ethic are attractive to global firms. Companies like Immucor, which export a significant amount of product overseas, are exactly the kind we want and can well support in our region.”

Immucor is a private company that has more than 1,000 employees at offices in the United States, Canada, Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Portugal, the United Kingdom, Japan and India. The company claims to have $390 million in annual sales.
