Nonprofit Organization of the Year- Large – Finalist
Hunger Task Force
201 S. Hawley Court, Milwaukee
Milwaukee-based Hunger Task Force continues to grow and innovate in sustainable and creative ways to help fight hunger in southeastern Wisconsin.
Hunger Task Force provides emergency food to a network of local food pantries and meal programs and remains the only food bank in the region that does not charge for food, delivery or network membership.
Each year, organization leaders, donors and more than 15,000 volunteers collect food through community drives, harvest produce at the Hunger Task Force farm, sort food at Hunger Task Force warehouse locations and build more than 9,000 boxes of supplemental food for low-income seniors per month.
The organization recently was selected as one of 12 organizations in the country to receive a federal U.S. Department of Agriculture grant to support its latest project, the Fresh Picks Mobile Market.
In 2016, Hunger Task Force transformed a former NASCAR trailer into a grocery store on wheels to help combat the growing problem of food deserts in Milwaukee.
In partnership with Pick ’n Save grocery stores, the mobile market provides fresh, affordable foods to underserved neighborhoods in the community.
