The assets of Big Bend-based truck and trailer manufacturer Huge Haul Inc. have been acquired by Romulus, Mich.-based Benlee Inc. in an all cash transaction.
The deal, announced earlier this month, will move all of Huge Haul’s operations to Michigan. Huge Haul makes lugger trucks and trailers for the scrap metal and recycling industries.
Greg Brown, Benlee president and chief executive officer, said the acquisition was a perfect fit for his company, noting Huge Haul products are used at Benlee’s recycling operations in North Carolina.
“It was a perfect fit for us,” Brown said. “Based on our experience, we understood the applications and the needs.”
Huge Haul lugger trucks were originally designed by Brooks Equipment in the 1930s and become part of the Ingersoll division of BorgWarner until 1960 when Heil purchased the load lugger division. In 1991, Huge Haul purchased the division from Heil.
Brown said the plan is integrate Huge Haul into Benlee’s other operations while seeking to improve on the product where possible.
“We will be doing with Huge Haul, what we did when we acquired Benlee and later Dunright roll-off trailers. We took great names with great products and improved on the basic designs, increased the support and expanded the product line, all with the focus on safety, durability, uptime and value,” Brown said.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
