Hoan Bridge reconstruction to begin

Reconstruction of Interstate 794 and the Hoan Bridge will begin in September.

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation wanted to start the project after construction on I-94/43 between Howard Avenue and Canal Street, which is now completed, and following this weekend’s Harley-Davidson 110th anniversary festivities, according to DOT spokesman Michael Pyritz.

Construction on I-794 is expected to last until 2016. Initial work this fall will focus on improving local intersections and building ramps and crossovers to prepare for construction.

The project consists of three major components: removing and replacing bridges on I-794, replacing the Hoan Bridge deck and repairing concrete on the Lake Interchange in downtown Milwaukee.

The reconfiguration of the Lake Interchange ramps is planned as a separate project.
