Hit movies propel Marcus Corp.

The Marcus Corp. reported fiscal third quarter net earnings of $734,000, or 3 cents per share, up from a net loss of $2.0 million, or 7 cents per share, in the same period a year ago.

The Milwaukee company’s quarterly revenues grew 9.6 percent to $92.1 million from $84.0 million a year earlier.
“We continued our momentum in the third quarter, with improved revenues, operating income and net earnings. Marcus Theatres benefited from a steady stream of hit movies throughout the quarter. The results of Marcus Hotels & Resorts continued to improve, even though our third quarter is historically the weakest quarter for this division due to reduced travel during the winter season in our predominantly Midwestern locations,” said Gregory Marcus, president and chief executive officer of The Marcus Corp.
