Herzing University now operating with nonprofit status

As Menomonee Falls-based Herzing University hits its 50th anniversary this year, the private school has become a 501(c)(3) nonprofit tax-exempt educational institution.

Herzing University announced its new status on Jan. 2, immediately after a Jan. 1 transaction that allowed for it to transition into a nonprofit institution. The transaction was completed as the school’s previous operating body, Herzing, Inc., was absorbed by the Herzing Educational Foundation Ltd., an existing 501(c)(3) tax-exempt nonprofit. The nonprofit acquired all operating assets of Herzing University, according to the school.

The Herzing Educational Foundation Ltd. has since changed its name to Herzing University Ltd. and has also expanded its board of directors.

Herzing University does not plan to make any “material changes” to senior administration, faculty, staff, programs or services to students, the school said in an announcement.

“We at Herzing University are very excited to be celebrating our 50-year tradition of focusing on student success and to continue our mission as a nonprofit institution,” president Renee Herzing said. “We remain committed to aligning our program offerings with the needs of employers and the communities we serve. We are looking forward to this exciting next step in the evolution of the university.”

Herzing University was founded in Milwaukee in 1965 and today operates 11 campuses in eight states as well as a continuing education division and an online division. The university serves about 6,000 students.
