Employers in the metro Milwaukee area expect to hire at a strong pace during the second quarter of the year, according to the latest Manpower Employment Outlook Survey from Milwaukee-based ManpowerGroup.
Among employers surveyed, 26 percent plan to hire more employees during the second quarter, while three percent plan to reduce payrolls and 71 plan to maintain current staffing levels. That yields a Net Employment Outlook of 23 percent.
The Net Employee Outlook for the Milwaukee area was 19 percent for the first quarter of the year, according to the Manpower Employment Outlook Survey report.
However, one year ago the Net Employment Outlook for the metro area was 28 percent.
For the second quarter, metro Milwaukee job prospects appear best in durable goods manufacturing, nondurable goods manufacturing, transportation and utilities, wholesale and retail trade, professional and business services, education and health services, leisure and hospitality and other services, according to the report.
Employers in information plan to reduce staffing levels. Hiring in construction, financial activities and government is expected to remain unchanged.
The second quarter Net Employment Outlook for the U.S. economy is 16 percent and for Wisconsin is 22 percent, according to the Manpower Employment Outlook report.
