Milwaukee-based Harley-Davidson Motor Co. is recalling more than 3,000 motorcycles because of a problem with the ignition switch.
The recall, filed by the manufacturer July 8 and posted today by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, applies to certain model year 2014.5 FXDL Dyna Low Rider bikes that were manufactured between January 6 and June 19. The problem lies with vibrations at high speeds that could cause the ignition switch to shut off.
Because of the potential for the engine to stop and stall the motorcycle in this situation, increasing the risk of crash, the company has recalled about 3,361 bikes.
Owners impacted by the recall can have their engine mount bracket assembly and ignition switch nob replaced at a dealership for free.
Harley also recently recalled 66,421 motorcycles because of a problem with the front brake line.
