The City of Oak Creek and CORE Construction will hold a groundbreaking ceremony to celebrate the start of construction for Drexel Town Square’s latest project, a TownPlace Suites by Marriott hotel, at 11 a.m. Wednesday.
The 112-room hotel is planned for a 2.3-acre site on the eastern side of the public square in Drexel Town Square.
The four-story, extended stay hotel will have suites with full-size kitchens and in-room workstations, as well as an indoor pool and fitness center. The hotel is being designed by Milwaukee architect Kahler Slater. Schererville, Ind.-based CORE Construction is the construction manager.
Oak Creek has worked with several developers on this project since 2010, and considered multiple operators and locations.
The hotel was originally going to be a 108-room Four Points by Sheraton but the flag has changed to TownePlace Suites by Marriott.
TownePlace Suites is considered an upper midscale Marriott brand. This will be the second TownePlace Suites in the state. The other one is in Brookfield.
“We’re excited that TownePlace Suites will be joining the incredible mix of development at Drexel Town Square,” said Oak Creek Mayor Steve Scaffidi.
The hotel is expected to open in the fall 2017.
