In continued celebration of its centennial year, the Greater Milwaukee Foundation will open up Miller Park to the community for free behind-the-scenes tours and activities on Sunday, Sept. 13.
The day of ballpark access, made possible by a partnership with Brewers Community Foundation, is the foundation’s latest monthly gift to the public. In July, the organization announced plans to help the Milwaukee County Zoo acquire snow leopards. In August, the foundation helped grant community members free access to area nature and ecology centers.
During the foundation’s upcoming day at Miller Park, community members will be able to get a full ballpark experience with walking tours throughout the lower service level. Hotspots on tours include the Brewers batting cages, media interview room, visiting team clubhouse and dugout, warning track and bullpen.
Attendees will also be able to take in the scoreboard control room, Bob Uecker’s radio booth and press seating area.
The ballpark is more than a sports hub, said Ellen Gillian, president and chief executive officer of the Greater Milwaukee Foundation.
“It’s a community landmark – supported in part by the public – that has the ability to bring people together through common interests and activities,” she said in a press release.
Beyond tours, the day at the field will feature a live broadcast of the Milwaukee Brewers’ away game against the Pittsburgh Pirates on the park’s main video board.
Additionally, the day will include presentations of the new Selig Experience, meet and greets with the Klement’s Racing Sausages and Bernie Brewers, and free range on the U.S. Cellular Power Playground.
As the Greater Milwaukee Foundation gifts the day of ballpark fun to the community, the organization is also encouraging participants to give back, themselves, by donating school supplies to a collection effort at Miller Park in support of Milwaukee Public Schools students.
Donations, however, are not required for community members to reap the benefits of the day.
The foundation will operate ballpark activities from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. with free parking available for guests. The park is located at 1 Brewers Way in Milwaukee.
