Waukesha-based Generac Holdings Inc. will acquire the assets of German manufacturer Motortech in a deal expected to close in early 2017, the company announced Monday.
Motortech Holding GmbH & Co. KG is based in Celle, Germany and was founded in 1988. The company manufactures gaseous-engine control systems and accessories that are sold to European gas-engine manufacturers and aftermarket customers.
The company has 250 employees between its German headquarters, Polish manufacturing plant and sales offices in the U.S and China.
“This acquisition allows Generac to expand its global market for gaseous products beyond standby generators, and it aligns with our strategy of gas power-generation leadership. It will significantly expand our worldwide spark-ignited engine capabilities, complementing the international growth Generac has experienced,” said Patrick Forsythe, Generac executive vice president of global engineering.
Motortech’s current management team will continue to lead the business after the acquisition is complete.
“The integration into Generac will create broader product-application markets globally, and is expected to bring meaningful opportunities to improve our product costs and ultimately the value we bring to our customers,” said Florian Virchow, Motortech chief executive officer.
The acquisition is the second international acquisition Generac has made this year. The company acquired Italy-based PR Industrial S.r.l, the parent company of Pramac, earlier this year.
The company opted to keep the Pramac management team in place for that deal as well.
