Town of Genesee-based Generac Power Systems plans to expand its recently opened facility in South Carolina by 200,000 square feet to create additional space for warehousing of raw materials and finished goods.
The 421,000-square-foot facility in Trenton, South Carolina opened in July as the company sought to keep up with increased demand for its home standby generator products. The company said the expansion would increase its distribution capacity in the southeastern United States.
“Generac has experienced tremendous growth over the past decade and demand for our products continues to be exceptional as the combination of an aging grid and extreme weather are resulting in more frequent and longer lasting power outages, and that demand has only intensified in the last year and a half with more people needing backup power as they spend much more time at home doing everything from working to learning to shopping,” said Aaron Jagdfeld, president and chief executive officer of Generac.
The company previously said the facility would generate 450 new jobs over the next two years.
Generac has also expanded production at its facilities in Wisconsin to keep up with its growth. It recently struck a deal with the Wisconsin Economic Development Corp. to add 700 jobs and invest $53 million across its Wisconsin footprint in exchange for up to $9 million in tax credits.
