GE Healthcare Monitoring Solutions will lay off 90 employees from its location at 8200 W. Tower Ave. in Milwaukee.
Monitoring Solutions is part of Life Care Solutions, the GE Healthcare business that makes patient monitoring solutions, maternal-infant care solutions and respiratory and sleep solutions. The site currently has about 425 employees.
The layoffs will take place from March 30, 2015 to March 30, 2016. The employees included in the action will be paid through their last day worked, and then will be eligible for company layoff benefits, according to a WARN notice the company filed with the state Monday.
The company is laying off employees because some of the products currently produced at the Tower Avenue facility are being phased out and are not in high customer demand. The location will continue to serve as the headquarters for GE’s Life Care Solutions business, and other changes are being made to decrease supply chain complexity and increase customer responsiveness, said Benjamin Fox, US-Canada PR manager for GE Healthcare.
“GE Healthcare’s commitment to Wisconsin manufacturing continues,” Fox said. “While facility-specific employment numbers ebb and flow with customer and market demands, we anticipate that, upon conclusion of this action, the overall Wisconsin employment numbers will remain stable over the long run. For example, our new CT Revolution product and other projects in Wisconsin have led to increased hiring recently of more than 30 new Wisconsin-based jobs, with more potentially anticipated in the near and midterm.”
GE Healthcare will work with affected employees to find other roles within the company.
Advanced manufacturing investments will continue to drive long-term competitiveness at GE Healthcare, Fox said.
