GE Healthcare is relocating its “USCAN” support functions from Wauwatosa and in the process, laying off 123 employees, the company notified state officials Tuesday.
The company’s USCAN or U.S. and Canadian region support functions are located at 9900 W. Innovation Drive.
In addition to the planned layoffs, GE Healthcare plans to move its USCAN employees from Wauwatosa to the company’s global headquarters in Chicago and five regional offices. The company declined to say how many employees will be relocated.
Support functions positions in Wauwatosa include operations, finance, marketing, communications, human resources and legal. These employees will be laid off permanently on Aug. 31, 2020, according to a WARN (Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification) notice filed with the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development.
“GE Healthcare continuously reviews its business to ensure we are positioned for growth and global competitiveness,” a GE spokesperson said in a statement. “In January, we informed employees that to be closer to our customers and strengthen our business, portions of the U.S. commercial team will transfer to the company’s global headquarters in Chicago and five regional offices. We remain committed to Wisconsin, home to more GE Healthcare employees than any other state.”
GE employees 50,000 people globally and approximately 5,700 in the Milwaukee and Madison areas.
A GE spokesperson said the transition will not impact a vast majority of GE Healthcare employees in Wisconsin, including manufacturing, engineering, support and product leadership hubs across the state.
