Gas prices surge to new record

The average price of a gallon of regular gasoline in the Milwaukee-Waukesha market rose to a new all-time high of $4.208 today, surpassing the previous high that was set in July 2008, according to the AAA Daily Fuel Gauge Report.

The report is compiled by the AAA with the Oil Price Information Service and Wright Express.
The Milwaukee-Waukesha gas market is the highest in the state, surpassing the average prices in Eau Claire ($3.867), Green Bay ($3.940), Janesville-Beloit (4.934), La Crosse ($3.784) and Madison ($3.897).
The statewide average price is $3.991.
The prices of gas in the Milwaukee market typically spike in the spring for a variety of reasons, including the federally mandated switch over to a summer blend of fuel designed to reduce emissions.
