“The arrangement will allow Froedtert & MCW physicians, CVS pharmacists and practitioners to securely exchange information to better ensure patients take prescribed medications and adhere to care plans,” hospital representatives wrote in a statement released Thursday.

Froedtert & MCW said patients must give consent before their records are shared among the organizations and the partnership will allow CVS to send physicians messages and alerts about patients’ medication issues. CVS will also be able to electronically share patient visit summaries from its MinuteClinics with primary care physicians.

“We’re continually improving how we deliver patient-centered care both inside and outside of our clinics and hospitals,” said Froedtert & MCW enterprise chief medical officer Jonathon Truwit, MD. “By giving physicians access to a more complete and timely profile of their patients, some of whom are managing chronic conditions such as diabetes, this partnership is another way we are demonstrating a commitment to integrated, quality care.”
