The former Bucyrus manufacturing campus in South Milwaukee has landed its first major tenant.
Franklin-based
Steele Solutions Inc., a manufacturer of steel mezzanines and work platforms, is leasing the 209,675-square-foot "Big Muskie" building at 1100 Rawson Ave.
It will occupy the building immediately, according to a news release. The deal will allow Steele Solutions to expand operations to South Milwaukee. It also has a Milwaukee location.
"Adding the Big Muskie building to our other two local fabrication plants will help us keep up with the rapid growth our customers are experiencing," Kevin O'Neill, chief executive officer of Steele Solutions, said in a statement. "We are excited to create many new, high-paying manufacturing positions that our employees can build a career in and continue to grow with us."
White Plains, New York-based industrial developer
Reich Bros. LLC is redeveloping the 27-acre property, which contains more than 750,000 square feet of industrial and office space over seven buildings.
It is part of the 76-acre campus formerly occupied by Bucyrus International Inc. and Caterpillar. Bucyrus was acquired by Caterpillar in 2011, and over time Caterpillar has dramatically reduced operations in South Milwaukee.
“This is great news for South Milwaukee,” South Milwaukee Mayor Erik Brooks said in a statement. “It’s exciting to see new life, and new jobs, come to the former Bucyrus campus in the heart of our city, and build on our manufacturing legacy."
Terry McMahon, Cody Ziegler and Steve Styza of Cushman & Wakefield | Boerke represented the Reich Bros. in the lease deal, while Steve Sewart of Colliers International represented Steele Solutions.
