Former Bigg’s Roadhouse to be demolished

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation is accepting bids through Dec. 1 from contractors to demolish the former Bigg’s Roadhouse in Wauwatosa.

The restaurant at 1900 N. Mayfair Road, closed May 31 after 12 years in business. Owners sold the 5,640-square-foot property to the DOT for its work on the Zoo Interchange project.

DOT Spokesman Michael Jenders said the DOT hopes to have the building razed by March 2016.

The DOT has purchased several properties since the $1.7 billion Zoo Interchange project began. Within two years of the project’s completion in 2018, any surplus land that the state is not using will be sold, Jenders said.
