In a story headlined, “The Capital of Water,” the April 15 edition of Forbes magazine takes note of Milwaukee’s ongoing transformation to become the “Silicon Valley of water technology.”
“Nestled on the western shore of Lake Michigan, at the confluence of three rivers–the Milwaukee, the Menomonee and the Kinnickinnic–this economically battered metro grew up on water-intensive industries like fur-trading, meatpacking, tanning and brewing. And while they are long gone or, in the case of brewing, smaller, the suppliers and skilled machinists that served them are still around, building useful things like water meters, pumps and plumbing fixtures – and the city’s future,” the story states. “Implausible as it might sound, Milwaukee is transforming itself from a dying industrial center into a technology mecca–a water technology mecca.
The story notes the founding of the Milwaukee Water Council by Badger Meter Inc. chief executive officer Richard Meeusen and former A.O. Smith Corp. CEO Paul Jones.
