A quick-growing restaurant community south of downtown will play host to the first-ever Walker’s Point Food Crawl on Saturday, June 23.
The event, hosted by MKEfoodies, OnMilwaukee.com and Milwaukee Food Tours, runs from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday and includes 13 restaurants in Historic Walker’s Point and on South 2nd Street.
Participating restaurants include Braise Restaurant, 1101 S. 2nd Street, featuring garlic scape bruschetta with green garlic jam, Chez Jacques, 1022 S. 1st St., which will serve both roast beef mushroom and spinach roquefert crepes and C. 1880, 1100 S. 1st St., which will offer a small veal breast entrée with carrots prepared four ways.
Crawlers can also keep cool with four flavors of ice cream samples at Purple Door Ice Cream, 138 W. Bruce St.
Steny’s Tavern and Grill, Lo Cash Live, Times Square Bistro and Pizzeria, Atomic Chocolate Company, Milwaukee Brewing Co., Ginger Tapas Bar, INdustri Café, Clock Shadow Creamery, The Noble and Zak’s Café will also offer dishes on the tour.
Seven of the featured restaurants have opened in the last year as the neighborhood’s burgeoning food scene develops, said Lori Fredrich, co-founder of MKEfoodies. There will be some direction from event organizers, but the tour is self-guided.
“Part of the emphasis of the food crawl was there has been such a blossoming of great restaurants in the Walkers’ Point area,” Fredrich said. “It’s much like a bar crawl would be, except people will be eating and walking and socializing and getting to know the places.”
Registration is available online at www.brownpapertickets.com/event/248745 or at a registration table next to Steny’s at the event. Silver Tickets include 8 small plates for $50; Gold Tickets include 14 small plates for $75.
