The Village of Shorewood and the Friends of Atwater Beach will host the Third Annual Beach Party on Saturday, Aug. 14 from noon until 10 p.m. at Atwater Beach in Shorewood. Proceeds from the event will go towards the continued restoration of the beach.
Music will be provided by local bands and Lakefront Brewery Beer, wine and food will be available for purchase. A bonfire on the beach will be held that evening.
Recent erosion caused by flooding has closed the access to the shoreline and highlighted the need for restoration on the bluff.
Friends of Atwater Beach along with matching funds has raised nearly $20,000 for the restoration efforts.
“We’re confident that with our continued efforts and partnership with the Village of Shorewood, we will achieve the goal of making Atwater Beach a primary destination in our area,” said Jay Urban, Shorewood resident and co-founder of Friends of Atwater Beach.
According to Urban, the organization has succeeded in forming a partnership with the Village of Shorewood to restore the beach, secured public funding to understand and address ecological conditions, maintenance, and safety and overall planning, raised private funds, and brought lifeguards back to Atwater Beach this summer.
