Drury Hotel in downtown Milwaukee to open in early fall

Will be first Wisconsin location

Work to redevelop the former First Financial Center office building in downtown Milwaukee into a Drury Plaza Hotel is progressing and the hotel’s general manager Chris Palid says it is now scheduled to open on Sept. 26.

Previously the hotel was expected to open in late August.

Built in 1928, the 14-story building is located northeast of North Water Street and East Wisconsin Avenue, at 700 N. Water St.

The hotel will have 227 guest rooms, 5,000 square feet of meeting space and a fitness center with a swimming pool and hot tub.

This will be the first Wisconsin location for St. Louis-based Drury Hotel Company LLC, which has more than 150 hotels in 25 states. Drury plans to open a location in downtown Madison next year at the former Madison Area Technical College downtown campus.

Drury hotels offer their guests free breakfast and a free light dinner buffet, called kickback, including three free alcoholic beverages each night per adult guest.

Palid said Drury would like to open additional locations in Wisconsin, including more locations in the Milwaukee area.

“We’d like to expand in Milwaukee,” he said.
