The Downtown Racine Corp. recently announced that the chosen name for its 2009 public art event that will feature decorated Adirondack chairs will be "Sunny and Chair…2009 Summer Tour!"

More than 200 entries were submitted in the Name the Event Contest.

"The summer forecast for Downtown Racine is sunny skies and lots of charming chairs," said Terry Leopold, director of special events for the organization. "We anticipate many visitors to Downtown this summer and we will encourage them to pull up a chair and stay awhile."

Regan and Dana Goodsell, owners of Elegant Pauper, submitted the winning name and received a $50 downtown gift certificate. A similar variation of the name was also submitted by Lloyd Miller of Racine.

A variety of Adirondack chairs will be decorated by talented artists and will be on display throughout downtown from early June through Labor Day. In September, a public auction will be held and the chairs will be sold to the highest bidders.

Businesses and individuals are invited become a sponsor of one of the completed chairs.  Contact the DRC office at 425 Main St. for more information.
