The Milwaukee Common Council recently voted in favor of an appeal by development firm Jackson Street Management LLC of an Historic Preservation Commission ruling requiring a set-back for the upper floors of Marriott hotel that the firm plans to build southwest of Wisconsin Avenue and Milwaukee Street.
The Common Council ruling clears the way for the project to proceed. Construction could begin during the second quarter, said a spokesman for Jackson Street Management. The hotel will have 200 rooms, a restaurant, ballroom and meeting space and a Schwanke-Kasten jewelry store. Jackson Street Management says that the hotel will create 175 to 200 permanent jobs and 350 to 450 temporary construction jobs.
