A list of recent contributions to area groups

  • Milwaukee-based Aurora Health Care is giving $500,000 to help improve athletic fields at two sites in Sheboygan. At Horace Mann Middle School, the funding will help upgrade fields, improve player safety, add soccer fields and build a concession stand, restroom and storage. The donation will also be used to regrade and reseed three baseball fields at Saemann Avenue and Taylor Drive.
  • The Milwaukee Public Museum recently received a three-year grant for $363,000 from Institute of Museum and Library Services to partner with The Field Museum in Chicago and the Green Gallery at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee on a Ordovician fossil digitization project.
  • Racine-based S.C. Johnson & Son Inc. this week announced it is donating $100,000 to the Red Cross to help relief efforts following the earthquakes and aftershocks that devastated parts of Mexico.
  • Stars and Stripes Honor Flight will fly the third of three fall Honor Flights on Nov. 4. The flight is sponsored by Young Presidents’ Organization‘s Wisconsin chapter with a donation of $50,000. For the second time since the program began in 2008, the organization will fly an entire plane of Vietnam War veterans from southeastern Wisconsin.
  • Two Boys & Girls Clubs in Milwaukee will each receive $35,000 grants from the Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield Foundation. The Daniels-Mardak Boys & Girls Club, 4834 N 35th St., and Roger and Leona Fitzsimonds Boys & Girls Club, 3400 W North Ave. will receive the “Triple Play” grants that are aimed encouraging healthy eating and physical activities.
  • Verizon Wireless is giving $25,000 to Sojourner Family Peace Center to help the Milwaukee-based organization expand its Sojourner Healthy Dating Youth Summits, which educate middle and high school youth on healthy dating practices. The grant will allow the organization to engage 750 students in the Greater Milwaukee area and expand the program to the fall semester, as well as the spring.
  • Flowers for Dreams, an online flower delivery startup in Milwaukee, is asking local nonprofits to apply to be a 2018 Charity of the Month to receive 25 percent of all profits netted from the business’s Flowers for Dreams sales. Interested nonprofits can apply at on the Flower’s for Dreams website.
